What Type of Material is Best for Your Installation?

We take great pride in the design and construction of our products.  However, while our metal furniture and ornamental pieces are beautiful, durable, and sturdy, there is no such thing as truly "care free" outdoor furniture.  Therefore, it is important to select the proper material for each installation.  We offer the following information regarding the advantages and considerations of different material types to assist you with the selection of the material best suited to different types of installation environments. Please call us if you would like additional assistance with the selection of the material best suited to your installation.

  When to Choose Wrought Iron

The primary advantages of wrought iron furniture are cost and durability.  Wrought iron furniture is generally less costly and stronger than aluminum furniture.  Wrought iron furniture is less vulnerable to bending and denting than aluminum furniture.  It is also heavier than aluminum and does not blow around as easily as aluminum furniture in areas that are prone to high winds.  It does, however, eventually rust when exposed to moisture. We recommend wrought iron material for indoor installations or placement in covered areas that are not exposed to moisture.

  When to Choose Galvanized Iron

The primary advantages of galvanized iron furniture are strength and durability.  Galvanized iron is very durable and strong and is less vulnerable to bending and denting than aluminum furniture.  It is also heavier than aluminum and does not blow around as easily as aluminum furniture in areas that are prone to high winds. Galvanized iron material is more expensive than wrought iron.

Our galvanized iron furniture is hot-dipped galvanized.  This process involves total immersion of the furniture piece in a solution that imparts a heavy zinc coating on the entire surface of the product. While this coating is extremely durable and provides maximum corrosion resistance, it is important to avoid improper handling so as to ensure that the zinc coating is not scratched or damaged as this could result in rust forming on the damaged area.  For maximum finish protection, we recommend that you cover your furniture when not in use and store it indoors during the winter season.

  When to Choose Wrought Aluminum

The primary advantage of wrought aluminum furniture is that it does not rust.  Wrought aluminum furniture is also lighter than wrought iron or galvanized iron furniture.  However, wrought aluminum furniture is typically more expensive than wrought iron furniture.  The primary consideration of this material is that aluminum is softer than wrought iron or stainless steel and aluminum furniture can be damaged more easily than iron furniture if handled improperly.  For maximum finish protection, we recommend that you cover your aluminum furniture when not in use and store it indoors during the winter season.
